This delicate Pin Oak leaf is crafted from a mold that I created from very small leaf I collected on Tamborine Mountain while visiting our wonderful Botanical Gardens.
It can be crafted into a delicate charm for necklaces or bracelets.

About the process and Metal Clay:
My pieces are crafted from nature. During autumn, while visiting our wonderful Botanical Gardens on Tamborine Mountain, a beautiful Pin Oak had started to drop its leaves. After searching for the perfect one, I cast in Metal Clay. Each leaf will have its own uniqueness due to being handmade, replicating nature "no two leaves are ever the same".
Metal Clay comes in various types. It is finely ground to a powder to which a binder is then added. It is completely non toxic and easily mixed into a ‘clay’ to a workable form. After molding the ‘clay’, it is left to dry – I then carefully shape and file it ready for firing. It is fired in a Kiln up to temperatures of 950C (to sintering levels) in which the binder is fired out and only the solid metal remains. It is then cleaned and tumbled until it is shining. Finally it is polished and finished ready to be worn.
